LOTHAL:
A
find of tremendous archaeological
significance, this site 87 kms from
Ahmedabad was discovered some 20 years
ago. Lothal has proved to be a
full-fledged settlement of the Harappan
era dating as far back as the 2nd
millennium B.C. (Museum Friday closed)

NALSAROVAR:
This delightful bird sanctuary of
Gujarat nestles around the Nal Lake 71
kms from Ahmedabad. The lake extends
over avast, low-lying stretch. Winter
migrants from the north include the Rosy
Pelicans, the Flamingos, the White
Storks, Brahminy Ducks and Herons.

The old walled city of Bhuj is the most
important town in the area. The Oldest
museum in Gujarat is located in Bhuj.

Mandvi founded
in 1581 AD has a fortification with 25
bastions. The Rukmavati Bridge built in
1883 is the longest existing one of its
kind. Mandvi is also well known for its
beautiful sea beach and the Vijay Villas
Palace built in 1935.

NARAYAN
SAROVAR:
Narayan Sarovar is 210 kms from Bhuj.
Narayan Sarovar is one of the five holy
lakes of the Hindu faith.

JUNAGADH:
Junagadh lies at the foot of Girnar Hill
and takes its name from the ‘Old
Fort’, which circles the medieval
town. Places of Interest: Uparkot Fort,
Ashoka’s Rock Edicts, Damodar Kund,
Chorwad Beach, Maqbara of Mahabat Kahn,
The Darbar Hall Museum.

SOMNATH
The legendary shore temple of Somnath is
one of the twelve most sacred Shiva
shrine in India.

SASAN
GIR:
Sasan Gir Sanctuary provides refuge to
that rare species –the Asiatic Lion. The
sanctuary covers an area of 500 squares
miles of dry, open scrubland where the
lions roam freely. |

JAMNAGAR:
Jamnagar is the Adobe of the Jadeja
Rajput rulers of Nawanagar and the
capital of their state. Places of
Interest: Solarium, Lakota Fort and
Kotha Bastion, Rozi and Bedi Ports.

PALITANA:
The city of shrines. Couches atop the
Shatrunjaya hills, the 863 temples built
in honour of Jain Teerthankaras are a
spectacular sight to behold. Jainism has
been instrumental in taking Indian
temple architecture to great heights.

DWARKA:
One of the main centers of the Krishna
legend sits on the western most tip of
the Gujarat peninsula, a sentinel over
looking the Arabian Sea.

PORBANDAR:
Porbandar is a picturesque old seaport
associated with the birth of Mahatma
Gandhi. Commemorating this event is the
Kirti Mandir Memorial, which contains
the little room where the Mahatma was
born. Porbandar has a pleasant beach
with beach villas.

MODHERA
The Sun Temple of Modhera is one of the
finest examples of Indian temples
architecture of its period. Built in
1026 A.D. the temple is dedicated to the
Sun- God, Surya and stands high on a
plinth overlooking a deep stone-steeped
tank. Every inch of the edifice, both
inside and outside is magnificently
carved with Gods and Goddesses, birds,
beasts and flowers.

PATAN
Home of the famous Patola silk saris,
Patan is a beautiful old town with Jain
temples and carved wooden houses.
Ranakivav (step-well) and Sahastraling
lake are also interesting places to
visit in Patan.

VADNAGAR
Vadnagar is a showcase of the history of
about 1000 years, with an ancient fort
wall, gates, and street structure. The
great Temples, Torans, Havelis, Vavs,
Kunds, Ghats & Water wells were the
backdrop for colourful, vibrant scenes
of daily life and religious rituals.

Once the capital of the princely
Gaekwads, Vadodara is a graceful city of
palaces, parks, temples and museums.

CHAMPANER:
It is situated 47 kms from Vadodara. The
town of Champaner was subjugated by
Sultan Mehmum Begara in 1484 and made it
his new capital. Champaner lies at the
foot of Pavagadh Fort.

PAVAGADH
FORT:
The hill of Pavagadh rises from
Champaner in three stages. The plateu at
an alitiute of 1471 ft. is known as the
Machi Haveli. Pavagadh is 49 kms from
Vadodara, and is also known as the
birthplace of Gujarat’s famous
musician, Baiju, who preceded Tansen.

SURAT:
Surat has been one of the most
prosperous of cities of India in the
17th and 18th century. The East India
Company established its first warehouses
in Surat in 1612. Places of Interest:

SAPUTARA
HILL:
Gujarat’s picturesque hill station is
perched on a plateau in the Dang forest
area of the Sahyadri Range. At an
altitude of about 1000 m, it has a cool
bracing climate. Saputara has been
developed as a planned hill resort with
all the necessary amenities likte
hotels, parks, swimming pools, boat
club, theatres and a museum.
